BIOGRAPHY

Lee Van Cleef’s distinctive, knife-edged features made him an unforgettable presence across decades of cinema, culminating in a legendary run of Spaghetti Westerns that remain cornerstones of any serious film collection. From his uncredited debut as a menacing outlaw in 1952's *High Noon* to his pivotal role as the cold killer Liberty Valance in 1962's *The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance*, Van Cleef consistently elevated even minor roles with his singular intensity. Collectors particularly cherish his early filmography for showcasing the evolution of a character actor who would soon become an icon. It was his collaboration with Sergio Leone that cemented his status, casting him as Colonel Mortimer opposite Clint Eastwood in 1965's *For a Few Dollars More* and later as the ruthless Angel Eyes in 1966's *The Good, the Bad and the Ugly*. These films, staples of every cinephile’s physical media library, catapulted Van Cleef to international stardom, especially in Europe, leading to lead roles in other acclaimed Westerns like 1967’s *The Big Gundown*. Later in his career, he even explored action and ninja films, such as *Master Ninja 5* (1985), offering collectors a wider range of his unique screen persona to track down on VHS, DVD, or Blu-ray. His unmistakable gaze ensures his legacy endures as one of cinema’s most compelling "bad guys."
