The film follows the lives of two Sergeys and Ekaterina as their peaceful existence is shattered by the outbreak of World War II. With the arrival of fascist forces in the Caucasus, the two friends volunteer to join the partisans, driven by their love for Ekaterina, who remains behind in the village. The story intensifies as the partisans receive orders to destroy a German ammunition warehouse, leading to a perilous mission for the two Sergeys.
