The film follows Little Nikita, the son of polar scientist Sergei Ivanov, who runs away from home to reach the Arctic, believing that his father is working there. His journey takes him to Leningrad, where he ends up at the Arctic Institute, prompting a search by Sergei to bring him back.

As the story unfolds, Nikita's determination to conceal his identity adds tension to the narrative. The arrival of his grandmother introduces further complications, ultimately leading to a reconciliation between Nikita's parents.
