À la Mode is this quirky little comedy that balances whimsy with some serious undertones. Fausto, our main guy, really embodies that underdog spirit. He gets thrown into an orphanage and faces some initial rough patches, but then – bam! – he finds camaraderie with Raymond, his new bunkmate. The film’s pacing is interesting; it sort of breezes through the early bullying but takes its time exploring Fausto's apprenticeship with Mietek, the tailor. There’s this delightful charm in the Jewish quarter, and the vibrant atmosphere is palpable, especially with Fausto's budding romance with Tonie. The performances are pretty engaging, capturing that mixture of innocence and aspiration. It’s not flashy but has its own unique rhythm that makes it stand out.
