2012 Doomsday is an interesting blend of action and fantasy that taps into the whole 2012 apocalypse craze. The atmosphere is a bit chaotic, which fits the subject matter, and you can feel the urgency in the pacing. The performances are solid enough, especially from the four leads, who each bring a different angle to the story. There’s a certain charm in its practical effects, although they can be a bit hit-or-miss, giving it an almost indie feel despite the ambitious premise. The film leans heavily into themes of faith and destiny, which can be a mixed bag. Not for everyone, but if you’re curious about apocalyptic narratives, it’s worth a watch.
Released on DVD in 2009, later on Blu-ray.Shot in locations around Mexico for authenticity.Features a mix of practical and digital effects.Runtime is around 90 minutes, keeping it tight.
