2012: Supernova has a bit of that early 2000s sci-fi feel, with a story that’s both ambitious and a tad absurd. The premise revolves around a supernova threat, and while the effects aren’t cutting-edge by today’s standards, they have a certain charm. Brian Krause leads as Dr. Kelvin, and his performance, while not overly nuanced, does capture that frantic scientist vibe well. The pacing is a mixed bag; it has moments of tension but also stretches where it lags. Still, it’s interesting to see how they balance action with cosmic catastrophe. Not for everyone, but if you're into low-budget space epics, it has its moments.
Released direct-to-video in 2009.Shot on a modest budget, practical effects are predominant.Score blends orchestral and electronic elements.
