The story centers on Xiaoyue, a girl from a new immigrant family in Vietnam, who struggles with feelings of isolation and bullying at school. After receiving apples from her mother, who works far from home, Xiaoyue's longing for connection grows. Her friend Biyan plans a three-day journey for them to find Xiaoyue's mother, highlighting the importance of friendship and support during difficult times.

Additionally, the film features Ms. Chen, a teacher facing her own dilemma as she approaches retirement. Her after-school tutorial class is vital for Xiaoyue, Biyan, and their peers, serving as a safe haven amid their struggles.
