The film follows Swedish journalists Martin Schibbye and Johan Persson as they illegally cross from Somalia into Ethiopia to report on the impact of oil exploration in the Ogaden region. Their journey quickly turns into a nightmare when they are captured by the Ethiopian army after just five days.

After a Kafkaesque trial, they face an eleven-year sentence in a notorious prison, surrounded by fellow inmates who are also victims of political oppression. The harrowing experiences of survival and resilience within Kality prison form the crux of this gripping tale.
