900 Metres Below is one of those curious gems that really plays with your perception of space and time. The animation is quite striking, with vast mountain landscapes juxtaposed against stark, empty high-rise buildings. The atmosphere feels heavy, almost suffocating, as the mine operates beneath the surface, unintentionally dominating the lives above. The pacing is slow, allowing the viewer to soak in the isolation of the main character, a woman enveloped in her own solitude. The voices she hears from a book add an eerie layer, almost suggesting a dialogue between her inner world and the desolation surrounding her. It’s a film that lingers, not just in its visuals but in its themes of loneliness and the haunting echoes of the past. Definitely one that sticks with you, for better or worse.
