A Clouded Name

The story revolves around Jim Allen, who is trying to avoid Marjorie Dare by visiting his friend Stewart Leighton at the latter's country home. The plot thickens as Marjorie also arrives at the house, leading Jim to retreat into the woods where he encounters a little girl named Smiles, cared for by the mysterious old man Ben Tangleface.

As the tension escalates, Leighton attempts to manipulate Marjorie into marrying him for her wealth. However, Jim intervenes just as dark secrets emerge. Ben, who has a troubled past linked to the deaths of Marjorie's mother and Jim's father, ultimately takes violent action against Leighton. The connections between the characters and their pasts come to light, revealing a web of tragedy and scandal.
