A Happy Boy

The story centers on Øjvind, a smallholder's boy, and his lifelong friendship with Marit, a farmer's girl. As they grow up, Øjvind realizes he loves Marit, but their differing social statuses create tension in their relationship. After studying at an agricultural college, he returns to his village as an agronomist, aiming to improve his family's fortunes while rekindling his romance with Marit.

The film delves into the challenges posed by social class and ambition, as Øjvind strives to bridge the gap between him and Marit. With the help of his old schoolmaster, he pursues education and new agricultural methods to benefit his family’s farm. Meanwhile, Marit's grandfather, Ola Nordistua, represents the traditional values that threaten their relationship, creating a conflict that adds depth to the narrative.
