A Respectable Tutor

The film centers around Kong Yeuk-mui, the daughter of a Prime Minister, who falls for her private tutor, Chow Yuk-pui. Despite Pui's lowly status, Mui is determined to marry him once he achieves success in the imperial exam. Their relationship faces numerous obstacles, including Mui's father's disapproval and Pui's health complications.

As the story unfolds, Mui's brother, Tak-chu, prepares for the exam under Pui's guidance. Pui's illness and the impending examination create a sense of urgency. The film explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the struggles of rising above one's social standing. The narrative culminates in an unexpected twist, leading to Pui's rise to a position of power and his eventual marriage to Mui.
