Abuna Messias - Vendetta africana

The film centers on Cardinal Guglielmo Massaia, who dedicates his life to missionary work in Ethiopia. After spending two decades in Africa, he returns to Italy seeking support from the government of Piedmont, but finds himself unsupported by Count Cavour despite his noble intentions.

Massaia, known as Abuna Messias, returns to Ethiopia determined to continue his mission. He forms a friendship with King Menelik, which becomes crucial in his efforts to spread Catholicism. However, his mission faces opposition from Abuna Attanasio, the head of the Coptic Church, who seeks to thwart Massaia’s plans and instigate his exile.

The narrative escalates into a conflict between Menelik and Abuna Attanasio, leading to a war that threatens the stability of the region. In a bid to resolve the conflict, Massaia makes the difficult decision to leave Africa, highlighting the challenges faced by missionaries during this era.
