Accepted is one of those easygoing comedies from the mid-2000s that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The film really captures the slacker vibe and has a pretty laid-back, almost chaotic atmosphere. Justin Long has this charming, everyman quality as the lead—he’s someone you can root for, even if he’s a bit of a mess. The pacing is relaxed, letting the absurdities of his DIY college unfold with a sense of humor. There’s a nice mix of character types, each bringing their own quirks to the mix. The practical effects during the school’s construction are surprisingly fun for a comedy, and the whole thing feels like a loving nod to every underdog story. It's not groundbreaking, but it’s got its own charm.
