All Together is this quiet little gem from 2012 that explores the dynamics of aging and friendship. The tone is warm, with a nice mix of comedy and heartfelt moments that really capture the essence of growing older. The pacing is relaxed, allowing the characters’ interactions to breathe and develop naturally. You’ve got these five old pals deciding they’d rather live together than end up in a retirement home. It’s almost like a contemporary take on the buddy film, but with a focus on nostalgia and the challenges of aging. The performances are quite layered; they bring a genuine authenticity to the struggles of their characters. There’s also this ethnology student in the mix, which adds an interesting layer to the narrative, as she’s doing her thesis on the aging population. It’s not flashy or over-the-top, but that's what makes it distinctive, in my opinion.
