Amongst Equals

This documentary was commissioned by the ACTU and funded by the Bicentennial Authority. It aims to provide an audio-visual history of the Australian trade-union movement, examining significant events like the 1891 shearers’ strike and the formation of the Australian Labor Party.

Amongst Equals presents a pro-union yet objective perspective, highlighting the ongoing struggle between capital and labour. The film features candid testimonies from various unionists, offering an insider view of the movement's history. Despite its importance, the film has been rarely screened and was refused sanction by the ACTU, leading to its obscurity after some unofficial viewings in the early 1990s.
