The film is set in the tropical rainforest of Southeast Asia, where incantations summon ancient spirits, including the Kancil and Buaya. These folkloric figures engage in a dramatic display of rivalry, reflecting deeper themes of vengeance and ecological struggle. The visuals are intertwined with the burning of a tree effigy, invoking a range of spectres and ancestral figures.

Conceived during the Hungry Ghost Festival in 2019, An Invocation to the Earth addresses contemporary environmental crises through the lens of traditional stories and animistic practices. The film not only pays homage to cultural heritage but also raises questions about environmental stewardship and the consequences of climate change. Through its narrative and artistic expression, it serves as a poignant commentary on the urgent need for ecological awareness.
