An Unfortunate Fortune

Set in Mongolia, "An Unfortunate Fortune" follows the story of a young boy named Monchetenger, who desires to be the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama after the death of the previous one. His hope is driven by a wish to support his widowed and impoverished mother. However, despite his efforts, the monks overlook him as they search for the next chosen one.

As Monchetenger pursues the monks, his journey leads him to a breaking point, culminating in a descent into madness. In a tragic turn of events, his mother, overwhelmed by despair, contemplates taking her own life along with her son. The film presents a poignant narrative that reflects the weight of cultural expectations and personal sacrifice.
