The film centers on Dreas, who, after his bravery during a farm fire, is appointed to the local fire department. His naive nature leads him to construct primitive watchtowers and experience various successes, although he's often at the mercy of an arsonist's activities.

As Dreas attends a fire academy course in Maastricht, he returns to his village with high hopes. However, a disastrous fire at the local bakery results in his dismissal from the fire department. Undeterred, he finds a new path as a market vendor, showcasing a fire extinguisher he invented.
