Andy Warhol Exposed: Newly Processed Films from the 1960s

In 2024, Katie Trainor from MoMA and Greg Pierce from the Andy Warhol Museum collaborated with Colorlab to process over eighty 100-foot rolls of black-and-white and color film that had remained untouched since the 1960s. This project revealed raw, grainy footage associated with notable works like "Sleep," "Kiss," "Batman Dracula," and "Couch." Additionally, five previously unseen Screen Test portraits featuring regulars from Warhol's Factory are included in the release.

As a significant part of Warhol's legacy, this film provides a rare glimpse into the creative process and artistic environment of the 1960s. The film also features five rolls shot by Factory cinematographer Danny Williams, highlighting figures like Gerard Malanga, Paul Morrissey, Edie Sedgwick, and the Velvet Underground. These newly revealed visuals contribute to the ongoing exploration of Warhol's impact on contemporary art and cinema.
