Ants' Nest

The film revolves around the impending election of a new head at a nunnery, creating a divide among the sisters. Led by Virginia, the younger nuns advocate for modernization, including building a school and embracing scientific education. Their candidate, sister Magdolna, has attended secular universities and represents a shift in the convent's values.

In contrast, the seminarists, under Király Erzsi's leadership, oppose the older nuns' strict discipline. The atmosphere is one of rebellion against the oppressive environment cultivated by the institution. However, sister Magdolna is hesitant to engage in the struggle, largely due to Virginia's complicated feelings towards her and the lengths Virginia is willing to go to secure victory. This tension offers a deep exploration of personal and ideological conflicts within a religious setting.
