The story follows Max Telligan, a British author, who is on the brink of finishing his diary, which has caught the attention of Hollywood. After a lucrative offer is made by American producer Terry Wilde, chaos ensues when Wilde is found dead, sparking a fierce competition for the diary. As various parties, including terrorists and intelligence agencies, become embroiled in the search, the stakes rise.

Telligan's wife Harriet and daughter Marsha are also drawn into the turmoil, but it is Liz Ferber, Telligan's secretary, who takes center stage. She bravely defends the manuscript against those who seek to claim it for themselves. The film combines elements of comedy with a thrilling narrative, showcasing the lengths one will go to protect their work.
