Arthur Newman is an intriguing exploration of identity and escape. The film unfolds in a somewhat meandering pace, allowing the characters' internal struggles to breathe. You have this man, played with a sort of understated charm, who fakes his own death to shed his old life – definitely a unique premise. When he crosses paths with a woman who’s equally entangled in her past, it adds layers to their characters. The atmosphere is heavy with a sense of longing and uncertainty, and the performances carry a raw authenticity. Practical effects aren’t a highlight here, but the emotional weight more than compensates. It’s one of those films that lingers in your mind afterward, making you ponder choices and consequences.
