The film follows Sabine Schuster, a primary school teacher who suffers a sudden stroke during a rehearsal with her students. After being saved by doctors, she faces a difficult journey back to her everyday life, struggling with the basics of speaking and walking in rehab. Her husband, Stefan, a forester, makes modifications to their home in Ilmenau, Thuringia, hoping that the familiar environment will aid in her recovery.

As Sabine grapples with her condition, she initially resists the help she needs and avoids contact with her usual surroundings. Her longing for her previous life as a teacher and hiker complicates her path to recovery. A new nurse, Iryna, brings optimism and a demanding approach to Sabine's care, offering a glimmer of hope in her challenging journey.
