Being John Malkovich is this strange blend of comedy and existential dread—so many layers. Spike Jonze really captures that surreal atmosphere, and the puppetry angle feels both clever and tragic. John Malkovich’s performance is a wild ride; he plays himself but also embodies this distorted version of identity. The practical effects and sets are pretty fascinating, like how they created that cramped office space that becomes a portal. Pacing can be a bit jarring, which adds to the whole experience. You’re never quite comfortable, and it sticks with you, making you ponder what it means to inhabit someone else’s life. It’s a bit of a mind-bender.
