Bella ciao

Set in the 1930s, "Bella ciao" follows Orfeo and Nella Mancini, a working-class Italian couple who are staunch communists. As Mussolini's regime gains power, the couple decides to leave Italy for America, hoping to escape the rising fascism. However, a twist of fate leads them to Marseilles instead, where they must adapt to their new environment.

Orfeo's struggle to maintain his pride is central to the film as he takes a manual labor job for a wealthy landowner, who has ties to his past. This employer supports the fascist movement, complicating Orfeo's already difficult situation.
