Beverly Hills Cop II has this laid-back yet frenetic vibe, a mix of action and comedy that keeps you engaged. Eddie Murphy reprises his role as Axel Foley, and he’s on fire here, balancing charm and that signature sass. Tony Scott directs with his typical flair, the pace is brisk, which can feel like a bit much at times, but it’s all part of the fun. The atmosphere is quintessentially ‘80s, from the flashy cars to the neon-lit sets, and the score by Harold Faltermeyer is just as catchy as the first film. You get a sense of camaraderie between Foley, Taggart, and Rosewood that’s really enjoyable to watch. The practical effects used in the heist scenes are impressive and add a nice touch to the action.
