Set against the backdrop of a coal mine, Black Diamond tells the story of Iván Berend, a nobleman who is more interested in natural history than the high life of the gentry. His wealth allows him to engage in duels and card games, yet he is drawn to lectures on natural history and scientific experiments.

The film features a cast that includes Péter Huszti, Szilvia Sunyovszky, and Gábor Koncz. The narrative unfolds as Iván finds himself in conflict with the ambitions of a Viennese banker, Félix Kaulmann, who threatens not only his livelihood but also intertwines with the lives of Evila and her fiancé, Peter Szaffrán, who are involved in the mine’s operations.
