Bluffing It is a pretty interesting TV movie from '87 that dives into the life of a factory foreman, played by Dennis Weaver. It captures the struggles of a man who's functionally illiterate and has to confront his limitations when he turns down a promotion that requires reading. The tone is definitely somber, but it has these moments of warmth that come through, especially in the interactions with his family. The pacing can feel a bit slow at times, but it matches the heavy themes of pride and personal struggle. The performances, particularly Weaver's, are quite earnest, and the atmosphere reflects a working-class environment that feels very genuine. It's a slice-of-life kind of film that addresses real issues without feeling preachy.
Check for the unique portrayal of functional illiteracy.Note the authentic working-class atmosphere throughout.Great for discussions on social challenges in film.
