Bolt's a curious blend of adventure and comedy, with a unique premise that plays on the idea of a dog believing he's a superhero. The animation is pretty polished, especially in the chase scenes through New York City, which have a nice fluidity. The pacing is quite brisk, keeping the mood light while still touching on themes of loyalty and self-discovery. John Travolta voices Bolt with a certain earnestness that adds depth, and the supporting cast, including Miley Cyrus, gives it a nice balance. It doesn’t break new ground, but you can tell there’s a lot of affection in the storytelling. The visuals pop, and it captures the essence of a dog’s perspective in a clever way.
