Born in Year of Mulberry

The film centers on a couple, Ok-Nyeo and Hyeon-Bo, who live in poverty but maintain happiness. When Hyeon-Bo falls ill, Ok-Nyeo takes drastic measures to care for him, including selling her body to the men of the village. This act leads to violent backlash from the village women, yet it also deepens the bond between the couple.

As the story unfolds, Mr. Choi becomes a witness to their love and struggles. His actions toward Hyeon-Bo create conflict, culminating in a dramatic moment of recovery for Hyeon-Bo. This film encapsulates the challenges faced in difficult circumstances and the lengths to which one will go for love.
