So, Bye Bye Monkey, it's a bit of an oddity, really. Ferreri crafts this bizarre blend of comedy and drama set in a gritty, almost surreal New York. You've got this electrotechnician, Lafayette, who gets entangled with a megalomaniac wax museum director and a group of feminist actresses. The pacing is leisurely, allowing the quirky characters to unfold, which might not be for everyone, but it really sets a unique atmosphere. The performances are quite layered, particularly with the dynamic between Lafayette and Angelica, who’s charming in her determination. And there's this small adopted chimpanzee that adds a strange but fitting touch. It all feels very much like a reflection on loneliness and absurdity in modern life. Not for the mainstream crowd, definitely.
