Called Upon is one of those intriguing little films that doesn’t rely heavily on flashy effects, but rather builds its atmosphere through evocative storytelling and subtle performances. The pacing is deliberate, inviting you to immerse yourself in its supernatural elements. You can really feel the tension as the characters navigate their adventure, which has a sense of urgency yet also allows for moments of introspection. It's interesting how the practical effects are used sparingly but effectively, adding a layer of authenticity. The unknown director brings a fresh perspective, and while some may argue it meanders, I think it allows the viewer to absorb the themes of connection and the unknown. Definitely an experience rather than just a film.
