Camelamos naquerar

Camelamos naquerar, also known as We Want to Speak, is an adaptation of a theater play that addresses the historical challenges faced by the Roma people. The film is a collaboration between Romani poet José Heredia Maya and choreographer Mario Maya, who also performs in the piece alongside other artists.

The title, translated from Caló, reflects the film's revolutionary message of reclaiming a voice in Spanish history. It delves into the long history of persecution against the Roma community, starting with the Pragmatic decrees from the fifteenth century and extending to the oppressive Francoist laws of the twentieth century. This documentary not only highlights the cultural contributions of the Roma but also serves as a platform for their struggle against institutional injustice.
