Cape Cod Cthulhu sort of blends youthful exuberance with Lovecraftian dread, which is really interesting. The whole setup is about three teenagers getting lost in their Poe rehearsal, and then they inadvertently rouse Lovecraft’s spirit. There’s this quirky blend of humor and horror that keeps you guessing. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, but it has a certain charm. The practical effects used to depict Cthulhu are surprisingly effective; they lean on the classic monster movie vibe rather than CGI, which I appreciate. The performances from the young cast are all over the place, but in a way, it adds to that raw, indie feel. It’s definitely not your typical fantasy flick, but that’s what makes it distinctive, right?
