Captain Hook: The Cursed Tides has a dark, brooding atmosphere that really sets it apart from the usual swashbuckling fare. Lars Janssen leans heavily into horror elements, giving us a Hook that’s more tragic than just a comical villain. The coastal town of Eldritch Landing is beautifully crafted, with practical effects that enhance the eerie vibe. The pacing can be a bit uneven, but it builds tension nicely, especially in the second act. Performances are solid; the lead brings depth to Hook, making you almost empathize with the character's plight. It’s distinctive in its blending of genres, and this experiment gives it a unique flavor. It’s not a straightforward adventure, which I found refreshing.
