Castles and Cottages

The film follows the character of Anton, known as Crooked Anton, who has endured a lifetime of labor for a count, leaving him crippled. After the war, as the count's land is redistributed among farmers, Anton hopes for a chance at freedom and stability for his family. However, old debts and local intrigues continue to obstruct their path to peace.

Set against the backdrop of the transitioning landscape of Mecklenburg, Castles and Cottages provides an impressive panorama of village life during a transformative period in German history. The narrative captures the struggles and aspirations of the community, particularly through the experiences of Anton and his daughter Annegret, who seeks her own path amidst the changing dynamics.
