Catone in Utica - Vivaldi

This opera tells the story of the conflict between Julius Caesar and Cato the Younger, focusing on their political rivalry set against a backdrop of military action in 49-48 BC. The narrative also includes a secondary love plot, adding depth to the historical context.

Originally staged in 1737 in Verona, Catone in Utica is one of Vivaldi's last operas. Although only Acts II and III have survived, it remains a significant piece in the operatic repertoire. The Teatro Comunale di Ferrara ‘Claudio Abbado’ has revived this rarely-performed work, providing a unique opportunity to experience Vivaldi's artistry live. This production follows their successful staging of Vivaldi’s Farnace in December 2021, highlighting the ongoing interest in Vivaldi's operatic contributions.
