Cheated Hearts

The narrative follows Barry Gordon, the older son of a Virginia colonel, who struggles with alcoholism, a legacy of his father's death. His brother, Tom, falls in love with Muriel Beekman, the daughter of their guardian. Complications arise as Barry also harbors feelings for Muriel but feels rejected.

Three years later, after traveling extensively, Barry learns that Tom has been captured by desert marauders in Morocco. In Tangiers, Barry embarks on a quest to rescue him, where he encounters the Beekmans and Kitty Van Ness. During this journey, Barry and Muriel find their love for each other, but Barry is torn, refusing to commit until he knows Tom's fate.
