Chronicles of my Village

Set in 1960, 'Chronicles of my Village' follows nine-year-old Bachir, who dreams of becoming the son of a martyr. His desire stems from the belief that children of martyrs would be rewarded after independence. As Bachir navigates his childhood, he concocts a plan against François, an enemy of Algeria, while dealing with the absence of his father and the realities of war.

The film explores the lives and visions of young Algerians during a tumultuous period. It combines humor with poignant moments, providing insight into how children experienced the Algerian War of National Liberation. Karim Traïdia draws from his own childhood memories, creating a narrative that is both personal and reflective of a larger historical context. This film is a noteworthy representation of the Maghreb region's history and the impact of war on its youth.
