City Slickers is this odd blend of comedy and Western that works surprisingly well. You get these three New Yorkers, played by Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern, and Bruno Kirby, who are just looking for a break from their city lives. The film's pacing is quite leisurely at times, which really captures that whole 'wide open spaces' vibe. The chemistry between the leads is genuine, and Jack Palance’s character, Curly, adds a nice bit of grit. There's that balance of humor and some deeper themes about life and purpose. A bit of the classic 'fish out of water' scenario, but it’s done with a charm that’s hard to pin down. Plus, the practical effects on the cattle drives give it a raw authenticity that you don’t always see in contemporary comedies.
