Cold Fears is an interesting exploration of identity and repressed feelings, directed by Hanne Frederix. You’ve got Matt, this 18-year-old senior, who’s grappling with his feelings in a relationship that feels more like a safety net than true love. The film creates a pretty intimate atmosphere, capturing those awkward moments of adolescence. There's a subtle tension, especially when Matt realizes he's drawn more to his swimming partner, Lander, than his girlfriend, Lize. The pacing shifts nicely from the mundane to moments of self-discovery, and the performances are quite raw, depicting the turmoil of coming to terms with one's sexuality. It’s a quieter film that really leans into emotional nuance, making it distinctive for its time.
