Cross Country (1983) is a bit of an oddity in the '80s road movie genre. The film's laid-back tone has an almost hazy vibe, like a long trip with friends where the journey matters more than the destination. It features some interesting practical effects, but the pacing can feel a little uneven at times, with moments that linger a bit too long. The performances aren't anything to write home about, but they do add to that quirky, low-key charm. What really stands out, though, is the exploration of friendship against the backdrop of Americana. Not a film that everyone talks about, but there’s something refreshing in its simplicity and how it captures a slice of life.
