The story follows young knight Cyprian of Višně, who is resistant to marriage despite the urgency of his situation. His cook, Kunhuta, tries to help him by inviting various brides to the castle, but Cyprian finds companionship with the castle's ghosts, including the headless knight and the White Lady.
