Deadline is a fascinating piece from Nash Edgerton, who really captures a certain frenetic energy. It’s about this young guy, totally out of his depth, racing against time toward who knows what. The pacing is tight, and the tension builds as the clock ticks. What’s interesting is the practical effects used, given the budget – just $80! You can see Edgerton's early knack for storytelling. The performances feel raw and authentic, maybe a touch unrefined, but that adds to the urgency. Plus, winning Tropfest in '97 gave it a little bit of an edge, you know? It’s one of those short films that makes you appreciate the creativity that can come from limitations.
