Detroit Metal City is a 2008 comedy directed by Toshio Lee. This film follows Soichi Negishi, a musician who unexpectedly becomes the frontman of a death metal band while pursuing his dream of pop stardom.

Soichi Negishi moves to Tokyo with aspirations of becoming a pop musician but ends up leading the death metal band Detroit Metal City, also known as DMC. In this role, he transforms into the outrageous character Johannes Krauser II, complete with a striking costume and makeup.

Despite his dislike for the band's music and image, Negishi discovers his talent for performing within the death metal genre. The film, based on a popular manga, combines humor with the absurdity of his dual life as a pop musician and a death metal icon. With a runtime of 104 minutes, it's an exploration of identity and the challenges of pursuing artistic dreams.
