Die Fighting is a wild mix of action and thriller that really plays with the idea of cinema and reality. The premise is intriguing—a bunch of Shaolin-trained actors put through a brutal gauntlet in L.A. by a sadistic Director is something you don’t see every day. The pacing is frenetic, with each sequence ramping up the stakes as they take on a variety of thugs. The practical effects have a gritty charm to them, and the fight choreography, well, you can tell these guys know their stuff. The atmosphere is tense, almost suffocating at times, which is pretty unique for a film in this genre.
