Difficult Days is this gritty 1988 crime drama that really digs into the darker side of economic hardship. It revolves around these two brothers, shareholders who decide to shutter multiple factories, but keep their chemical plants running. The atmosphere is heavy, almost suffocating at times, capturing the desperation of the working class. There’s a rawness to the performances, especially in how the brothers handle their moral dilemmas. The pacing is a bit uneven, but that kind of adds to the tension. Practical effects are minimal, but they don't need much; the real impact comes from the characters’ struggles and choices. It’s one of those films that sticks with you, not flashy but definitely thought-provoking.
