Alright, so 'Don Q' is an interesting blend of comedy and drama, really playing with that sense of delusion in a neighborhood that’s seen better days. The protagonist, Q, is this longtime resident of Little Italy who’s convinced he’s some sort of mafia don. The humor comes from his absurd self-importance, but there’s a poignant undercurrent about lost values and community. The pacing feels old-school, kind of reminiscent of those classic character studies, where the atmosphere of the neighborhood is almost a character itself. The performances are solid, particularly the guy playing Q; he walks that tightrope between laughable and tragic. And that ex-con returning—man, that’s when things get spicy and really test Q’s delusions. It’s a quirky piece, for sure.
