Double Date (2017) has this weirdly charming vibe, blending comedy and horror in a way that feels fresh. You’ve got Jim, this anxious guy who’s facing his 30th birthday with a major case of the jitters around women. His buddy Alex is the classic cocky friend, and together they stumble into a night that spirals way out of control. The pacing is pretty tight, keeping you on your toes as they interact with these two interesting sisters, Kitty and Lulu, who have a darker side underneath their playful exterior. The practical effects are surprisingly effective for a film that leans heavily into laughs. It's a film that manages to poke fun at the genre while still delivering some genuine tension, which makes it stand out in the indie horror scene.
